The Society for Military Psychology (Division 19, American Psychological Association), along with the Washington, D.C. Psychological Association (DCPA), is sponsoring a two-day Advocacy in Military Psychology Summit. Attendees can join the conference in person or via webinar. This Summit brings together thought leaders in our field from multiple arenas, including suicide prevention, technology and tele-health, transitioning veterans, trauma/moral injury, coaching/leadership, mindfulness, prescribing psychology, and assessment and selection from our division think tanks. On Day 1 (November 6), panels will discuss the current state in these areas, as well as advocacy for policy ideas for the military. Military psychologists serve in many domains, including consultation to community leaders such as educational, federal, state, and local officials as well as the private sector, and non-profit organizations. The second day of this summit (November 7) will “give back” to the community, with consultation services for organizations like Tragedy Assistance Programs for Survivors, Sierra Club Military Outdoors, The Mission Continues, Workhouse Arts Center, Serving Together, Real Warriors, inTransition, Mission at Ease, and Lone Star Warriors.
Our hope for this summit is for participants to experience an exciting and informational exchange of ideas on a variety of topics to support the military community. There will be opportunities to connect with others and learn from a diverse group of professionals from academia, clinical, consulting, organizational, operational, research psychology and community organizations. This is a great opportunity to network, learn about current findings in military psychology, and accrue APA sponsored continuing education credits.
