The Society for Military Psychology (SMP) announces the search for the position of Editor in Chief for Military Psychology for a five-year term for the years 2021-2025.
Military Psychology is the flagship journal of the Society for Military Psychology, Division 19 of the American Psychological Association. Military Psychology seeks to advance the science and practice of military psychology by facilitating scientific communication among researchers and practitioners. The journal publishes behavioral science articles having military applications in areas related to (1) manpower and personnel issues; (2) testing and measurement; (3) training and human factors; (4) clinical and health psychology; as well as (5) social and organizational psychology. Military Psychology considers manuscripts that foster our understanding of these areas and stimulate the generation of research ideas and theoretical insights. Thus, the editor must have sufficient expertise and experience to be able to read and evaluate manuscripts on a broad range of topics using a variety of methods. Additionally, the editorial philosophy of Military Psychology is to provide guidance to international authors to bring their work up to publishable standards. For this reason, it is important that the editor be committed to nurturing international researchers.
The Editor In Chief is responsible for the scientific quality and content of all studies published in Military Psychology. The Editor in Chief will read, evaluate and edit all manuscripts submitted for publication; confer with authors regarding changes in content, style or organization, or publication; supervise and coordinate the work of associate editors and reviewers; plan the contents of publications according to the publication's style, editorial policy, and publishing requirements; review and approve proofs submitted by composing room prior to publication production; and oversee publication production, including artwork, layout, computer typesetting, and printing, and ensuring adherence to deadlines and budget requirements. The Editor in Chief appoints an editorial board, which includes Associate Editors (AEs) and Editorial Board Members (EBM), who are broadly representative of military psychology. The editor has substantial flexibility in how to organize the editorial board and shape the journal. The editorial office receives a stipend to support journal operations as governed by publishing agreement with the journal’s publisher Taylor & Francis Group.
Interested individuals should submit a letter of intent (limited to 3 single-spaced, typed-written pages in 12pt font with 1” margins), along with a resume/curriculum vita by email to Dr. Angela Legner (email@example.com) no later than 1 October 2020. The letter of intent should explicitly address relevant education, expertise, and experience for this position; and address specific interest in the position including but not limited to ways to increase relevance and readership of the journal; strategies to enhance the visibility and impact factor of the journal; procedures to ensure timeliness of the review process; and ways to position the journal for continued fiscal growth within an ever-changing publication environment. Review of applications will commence on 1 October 2020 and continue until the position is filled. The incoming editor will overlap with the current editor in the transition period during 2021. Selection will be announced early in 2021 with full assumption of duties as soon as possible but no later than midyear 2021.
