Regional Symposium Series Q/A session

10/12/2018

Dear Society Members:

On Friday the 5th 2018 we had a Regional Symposium Series Q/A session for interested applicants. Several of the callers asked specific questions and we wanted to follow through to clarify and expand on some of the answers. Please see the following Q/A information below:
  • If we do not have a student chapter can we apply? Yes, and we encourage you to connect with a student chapter
  • If selected for RSS, how much time does our site have to get our final program information to the RSS working group? Six weeks after the selection of the RSS sites which will occur on 11/1/18
  • If our organization (ex. Department of Defense) won’t let us charge money for a symposia, can we still apply and not donate to a Division 19 chapter? Yes
  • If our group/organization is unable to charge for the symposium and we want to fund a student to attend APA through our own funding can we do this instead of specifically supporting a Division 19 student chapter? Yes
  • If we want to split profits with DIV 19 student chapter(s) and our organizations can we do this? Yes; it is suggested that each site consider developing a RSS event fee based on the regional cost of such an event along with considering the range of economic situations across potential attendees including students
  • What is the timeframe to conduct a RSS event? February through mid-June, 2019
  • What is the length of the proposal? No more than 4-5 pages.
  • How many days does the RSS event need to be?  At least one full day

The following Society Student Chapters at the below schools are interested in collaborating with organizations for the RSS:

  • Adler University
  • George Fox University
  • George Washington University
  • Illinois School of Professional Psychology
  • Midwestern University
  • Old Dominion University
  • Sam Houston State University
  • Wheaton College

Michelle Koster is the POC for those interested in connecting with student chapters (michelle.koster@my.wheaton.edu).

Please see the attached example of symposia that that was conducted earlier this year. Those viewing  this on the webpage will find the attachment with this same message on the Listserv.

Proposals for Military Psychology Regional Symposia Series (RSS) 2019 are due October 15, 2018.

Please address any questions about the application process and/or the regional conference series to Dr. Kathryn Barrs (email: Kathryn.Barrs@du.edu, or, phone: (303)-871-4930).

Sincerely,
Stephen
