The following awards and grants are sponsored by Division 19 and presented at the division business meeting, which occurs during the annual APA Convention.
Annual deadline: May 30 Nominations should include the following:

Uhlaner Award). Winners will be notified prior to 30 June 2018 and awards will be presented during the Society for Military Psychology Business Meeting at the upcoming APA convention in San Francisco. |

Achievement Awards
Arthur W. Melton Early Achievement Award
|
This award is for outstanding contributions to military psychology.
The Arthur W. Melton Early Achievement Award is given to recognize early career achievements in military psychology, normally within five to 10 years of entry into the field. These contributions may be in the form of excellence in:
Any of these must clearly reflect advancement of the profession of military psychology, improved effectiveness of military psychology systems, or service on behalf of the welfare of military personnel. |

Distinguished Mentor Award

The Society for Military Psychology, APA Div. 19, is accepting nominations for the Military Psychology Distinguished Mentor Award. This award is intended to recognize exceptional efforts of individuals who invest in the development of psychologists and other professionals interested in the psychological study of the military through service, education, research, teaching and training. Mentoring can be that of mentees in any level of professional achievement.

Robert M. Yerkes Award
|
This award recognizes significant contributions to military psychology by a non-psychologist.
The Robert M. Yerkes Award is given for outstanding contributions to military psychology by a non-psychologist. The award is named for Robert M. Yerkes, the “Founding Father” of military psychology. Yerkes (1876-1956) had a distinguished career as a comparative psychologist first at Harvard, and later at Yale University. He studied chimpanzee behavior extensively, and together with John D. Dodson developed the Yerkes-Dodson Law, relating arousal and motivation to performance. As the President of APA in 1917, Yerkes led in the application of psychology to the demands of World War I. Also serving as chief of the Psychology Division in the Surgeon General's Office during World War I, Yerkes led in the development and use of the Army Alpha and Beta Tests, the first large-scale application of psychological testing. This program established the value of psychological testing for screening and placement purposes. |

Robert S. Nichols Award

The Robert S. Nichols Award recognizes excellence in service by uniformed clinical psychologists to military personnel and their families.
Awardees may be individuals or a group of individuals whose contributions merit special recognition by Division 19. |

The Society for Military Psychology is pleased to announce the research grant program to stimulate, promote and support cutting-edge research that advances the science of military psychology. Individual awards may be given for research within any area military psychology for up to $5,000, but total funds available for awards given in the research grant program may not exceed $15,000.

The Society for Military Psychology is pleased to announce the travel award program to support member attendance, participation and engagement in the midyear and/or annual meeting of the Society for Military Psychology. Several awards of $750 may be given to individuals to help defray costs of attendance, participation and engagement in division activities.

The Student Research Grant is designed to stimulate, promote and support cutting-edge research that advances the science of military psychology.
The Society for Military Psychology announces a change to its annual competition for Div. 19 Student Research Grants: the grants will now be due in the fall of each year, starting in fall 2013. The purpose of the Div. 19 Student Research Grant program is to assist graduate/undergraduate students of psychology with costs associated with conducting research. Up to two Student Research Grants of $1500 each will be awarded in fall. This annual award will be presented to students whose research reflects excellence in military psychology. The award winner(s) may request up to $750 in dedicated travel funds to aid with APA Convention attendance. While it is Div. 19's goal that Student Research Grant award recipients receive the award at the annual convention and/or present their findings to Div. 19 members, APA Convention attendance is not required. |

Div. 19 (Society for Military Psychology) sponsors an annual
Student Travel Award competition. The purpose of the Div. 19 Student
Travel Award program is to support psychology student travel to the APA Annual Convention and participate in Div. 19 activities.
This year, Div. 19 will award up to 12 Student Travel Awards of $750 each to graduate/undergraduate students who have demonstrated excellence in advancing the science and practice of military psychology. |
